  • The 900 g jars are opened one at a time: the rest of the pack stays sealed.
  • The size suits breakfast, the cheese board and cooking alike.

Serving ideas

The syrup is spread on bread, crêpes and waffles. In the kitchen, it binds and sweetens the sauce for boulets à la liégeoise (Liège-style meatballs), a carbonnade, a marinade or a vinaigrette. It is traditionally served with Herve cheese.

A storage tip

Keep the jars closed in a dry place, away from heat and direct light. The syrup does not need to go in the fridge; at low temperatures it simply becomes firmer and less easy to spread.

Did you know?

In the region, people also speak of “sirop de Herve” or pear and apple syrup: it is the same speciality, born in the orchards of the Pays de Herve (Herve region). Each syrup maker keeps its own recipe, sweeter or richer to a greater or lesser degree. For inspiration in the kitchen, the syrup works offers on its website a recipe for boulets à la liégeoise with syrup (in French), along with ideas for desserts and accompaniments.

Siroperie Meurens, in Aubel since 1902

Clément Meurens founded his syrup works in 1902, near Aubel railway station, to stay close to the orchards of the Pays de Herve. Vrai Sirop de Liège, a trademark registered in 1947, became the company’s flagship product. The fruit is pressed, then the juices are concentrated before being put into jars.
